The Gift of Hidden Lake

The Silence is very close.
I can feel it in the moments of stillness,
Sitting quietly on the porch
Calico cat resting on the chair
Hummingbird darting at the feeder
The lake so still
Only the flutter of dragonflies
An occasional ripple from a fish
And that’s when I feel it - so close
It’s very accessible
The Silence

It creeps up on me and takes me by surprise
It’s the deepness in a moment
It’s the wonder of a hosta in bloom
Lavender flowers spiking high
Towards the sun
It’s the gentle wisp of a breeze
Arising off the lake
It’s creation
It’s what's there beyond the beyond
I can taste it
It comes easy in a place sanctified
Steeped in its presence
This place

It’s the desire to go inward and rest
Rest in that vastness,
That place of pure radiance
The Silence is very close
When there is nothing more to be said
No words left
When there is only to be
Without thought
No things to do
To be only with
Silence.
